Enumerating Thoughts in Health Essays
Health essays written especially to argue, inform, or give personal reflections on certain health matters must be written impersonally. Often times, you are given essay questions that solicit your professional opinion on a certain subject matter. In this case, you need to be impersonal to give sound and objective judgement about the subject matter. The impersonal tone is used when you want to tell your readers that what you think about the subject matter is also right. If you use a subjective tone, there is a tendency that the readers will see your health essay as biased or too one-sided.
In the case of making good health essays, it is not sufficient that you can make good introductions or conclusions. You must also organise your middle paragraphs to sustain the interest and attention of the readers. Also, you must be able to maintain your impersonal tone until the end of the health essay – this includes the body of the essay. Sometimes, if you get carried away by the subject matter, you may write subjectively – a common mistake among writers.
You can track down your key ideas within the body of the health essay by using signposts. Signposts are highly noticeable within an essay since they are just located near the key topics of each paragraph. There are two kinds of signposts that you can use in the health essay: the number (1,2,3) or the number words (first, second, third). Normally, you use the number when you are going to enumerate key points in your health essay rather than using bullet points. Also, number words are normally used when you want to establish a certain order or sequence in the middle paragraphs of your health essay.
You must be very cautious though if you use number and number words together in one health essay. Sometimes, you may confuse your readers; for example, if you use number words as logical sequences for your paragraph then you must avoid using the same signpost type in the sentences of that same paragraph.
Using signposts is one of the best ways to establish the order of ideas in a health essay. You are not new to using signposts anymore, so you must also be very careful of using these.
